Maybe General's Ridge Golf Course should open their paths to bicyclists after hours. We would be another set of eyes, and families and singles in Manassas Park really need more bike paths!

What is "after hours" on a golf course? Most golf courses have play until close to dark and there's no way cyclists would be allowed out on cart paths. One golf ball to the head and the lawsuit that would follow makes it prohibitive. If there's enough sunlight for bike riding, there's enough for playing golf. Furthermore, one of the most common causes of damage to golf courses comes from bicycles which often end up being ridden across greens, fairways, etc. Greens are quite delicate. Kids running across them, dogs etc., would tear up a golf course and you know as well as I do that it would be abused anyway. Open it up to the public after hours? Just imagine a family of 7 out for an evening walk/ride, with that pretty green out there, with a hole and a flagstick that just DRAWS a kids attention, but they're all gonna stay on the cartpath eh? Of course not. Trust me, it wouldn't be a golf course very long and THAT would be a problem since the revenue to support the place is generated by carts, green fees, & snacks, NOT cyclists riding after hours. It only takes one punk on a bike to ruin a green. Most people have no clue how expensive it is to build a green. It's not just a patch of ground that's mowed lower than the rest of the course. In summary, It's not a park, it's a golf course. Besides, I'm nervous walking the streets here in the evening let alone riding a bike through a heavily wooded area? In this town? That's what I'd call "askin for it".

What you say makes sense. I really enjoyed riding our bikes around the golf course in Carlisle, PA - but when I think about it the joggers and bicyclists were actually on a path that encircled the golf course. The paved paths in Signal Hill Park are too short... does anyone know of a great bike loop around the area?
