Former Coach Pleads Guilty to Decades-Old Sex Abuse Complaint

Dennis Dyer, 58, of Manassas Park, pleaded guilty on Thursday to indecent liberties with a child on his T-ball team in 1978.

A Manassas Park man pleaded guilty Thursday to taking indecent liberties with a child while he was a coach on a T-ball team in the 1970s.

Dennis Reed Dyer, 58, of Laurie Court, pleaded guilty to one count of indecent liberties with a child in Prince William County Circuit Court. He will be sentenced on Jan. 24, 2013.

Prince William County police originally said they found two victims during the course of their investigation, and two charges were lodged against Dyer. One of the indecent liberty charges was dropped Thursday.

A victim said that Dyer assaulted him when he was 6 or 7 years old and played on the Greater Manassas Baseball League's Police Association tee ball team in 1978. Police arrested Dyer in April 2012, and a grand jury indicted him on the charges in September.
