Eleven years after the Pentagon and World Trade Center were hit in a terrorist attack, county residents gathered at the Liberty Memorial at County Complex Court in Woodbridge to remember those they had lost. 

Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart led the ceremony, giving a short introduction to the memorial and reading the names of the county residents who died on Sept. 11, 2001. 

The event began with the Pledge of Allegiance and an opening prayer. Then Stewart described the memorial, noting that the reflecting pool was in the shape of a pentagon, and pointing out a concrete block from the Pentagon. The names of those who died are inscribed on the memorial, and Stewart read these aloud.

He then invited residents to place flowers around the pool after taps was played. This is an annual tradition.
