Manassas Park Treasurer Winnie O’Neal, treasurer’s office employee Patty Trimble, city clerk Lana Conner and police chief’s assistant Karen Barton also played a key role in the auction, Manassas Park City Manager James “Jim” Zumwalt said on Tuesday.

The team worked hard to carry out the city’s auction of used vehicles and equipment on May, 21, 2011, Zumwalt said.

It took lots of preparation, organization and time to plan the auction, Zumwalt added.

The team worked hard to make keys for the vehicles, prepare them for inspection by potential bidders and transport them to the auction site.

Even Fred Reger, the auctioneer, took notice and gave praise Zumwalt said.

The highly-coveted Manassas Park Employee of the Year Award also went to a public works employee.

Laura Coughanor manages the business, administrative and customer service operations of the public works department and assists James “Jay” Johnson, the public works director.

In 2010, she took over the management of the city fire department's accounts payable after it lost its administrative assistant in 2010, Zumwalt said.

“Laura’s work ethic and exceptional customer service is well recognized—a direct and positive reflection on the city’s reputation,” the city manager said. “A dedication to the city, professional demeanor and personal responsibility, in addition to her knowledge, has made Laura worthy of this recognition.”

There are three nominees for the 2011 Employee of the Year Award. The other two nominees are Mark Joyner, fire marshal for Manassas Park and Latasha Simmons of the Manassas Park Department of Social Services.

t team led by Manassas Park Police Officer William “Quiz” Quesenberry came in a close second and received honorable mention for the 2011 Team of the Year Award.
